Generate Text: General

Under Generate Text: General, in the Options dialog box, you can configure the way that text will be generated from documents in your repository.

• Engine
  • OCR Engine: Select the engine that will be used to OCR documents.

• Settings

  • Language: The language of the text the OCR engine will try to recognize. If this is set incorrectly (e.g., set to English during OCR of Spanish documents), OCR quality may be affected.
  • Decolumnize text: This option determines how columned text will be handled. When selected, the text generated from the OCR process will be stored in a single column. When cleared, the OCR process will attempt to preserve column formatting.

    Note: This option may not be available for all engines.

  • Perform image enhancement: If images will be temporarily enhanced prior to OCR processing to optimize the processing.
    • Configure: The configuration of temporary image enhancements that will be performed on images to be processed by OCR. Opens the Image Clean-up Options dialog box.
  • Optimization priority: Choose whether you want OCR to be optimized for Speed, Balance, or Accuracy.
    • Speed: Reduces the amount of time it takes to OCR. Best for documents with clear text.
    • Balance: Strikes a balance between speed and accuracy. Best for documents with average text.
    • Accuracy: Increases OCR accuracy. Best for documents with less clear text.

• Office Integration
  • Automatically extract text when saving documents from Microsoft Office: Perform text extraction on Microsoft Office documents when they are saved to your repository.

    Note: This option does not apply to e-mail messages sent to Laserfiche from Microsoft Outlook. You will be prompted to choose whether to extract text from Outlook message files during the Send to Laserfiche process.

• Advanced Settings for PDFs: Configures additional PDF-specific settings. Opens the Advanced PDF Import Options dialog box.
