Advanced PDF Import Options

The Advanced PDF Import Options dialog allows you to configure additional settings for text generation from PDFs.

Use native text extraction: Uses Laserfiche's native text extraction for PDFs. This option provides the best combination of accuracy and readable formatting, and is recommended for most installations.

Use an alternative method to generate text:

Note: We strongly recommend using the native text extraction. We recommend using these options only if native text extraction is not working properly.

• OCR existing pages: OCR the image pages generated for the document.This process is slower than the other text extraction methods.
• Use PDF IFilter text extraction: Use a PDF IFilter to extract text. You must have a PDF IFilter on your Client computer to use this option. This process does not preserve page breaks.

Generate images and text for PDFs without a text stream: Native text extraction and IFilter text extraction cannot be used with PDFs that have no text stream. Select this option to automatically generate images from those types of PDFs and OCR them to generate searchable text.
